$14 billion infrastructure fund will help big cities and small communities: Harper

Prime Minister Stephen Harper says a $14-billion infrastructure fund will help out both big cities and smaller communities alike.

The cash from the New Building Canada Fund will be doled out to provinces and municipalities over the next decade starting this spring.

G20 to act to unlock infrastructure investment

Finance ministers from the world's biggest economies say they will act to unlock trillions of dollars in infrastructure investment, in an attempt to reignite global economic growth.

As part of a pledge to lift world growth by 2 per cent over the next five years, G20 member countries on Sunday said they would implement policies to lift private sector investment in infrastructure.

In the meantime, our Finance Minister, Jim Flaherty, is using the infrastructure announcement as part of a promise to do better on fighting unemployment.

Winter water woes have blown through city budget

It's likely a familiar refrain across the nation: 'It's been nuts.'

That sums it up — in a nutshell — for Dan McKinnon, the City of Hamilton's director of water.

So far this winter, Hamilton has experienced as many frozen water main breaks as it usually does in a full year. The city has already blown through its annual budget for unscheduled water main repairs and some people are having to wait up to 10 days to get water service back.
