Whistleblower complaints to city's inspector general tripled last year

The number of whistle-blowing complaints about wrongdoing at the city of Montreal nearly tripled in 2014 with the creation of the city’s corruption watchdog, the inspector general. Six of the 308 complaints received through Montreal’s whistle-blowing hotline, which is now managed by inspector general Denis Gallant’s office, were transferred to Quebec’s permanent anti-corruption squad, UPAC, for investigation.

We want to congratulate Denis Coderre, Montreal's mayor, for having the courage to shape the future for the better. He's already made a great first step, and allowed PVC pipe to compete fairly in Montreal infrastructure projects.

Fair and open competition reduces cost and corruption. Competition is better for the city, better for taxpayers, and not just better today but better for future generations.
